Procrastination is selfish.

"You cannot escape the responsibility of tomorrow by evading it today."
-Abraham Lincoln

 Wise words there, Abe.

Hi, my name is Alyssa and I am a PROCRASTINATOR. Yes, its true. I always put things off to the last minute... sometimes even to the last second. lol. I've always used the excuse, "I work better under pressure." But let me be honest, my work can still be brilliant... in fact, refined if I actually take care of business when I'm supposed to. Have you ever heard the expression,
"Never put off till tomorrow what you can do the day after tomorrow."
-Mark Twain

I know that many times I've put simple things (that don't take long to do) off out of pure laziness. These simple things pile up, one on top of the other and BAM! The next day I'm swamped, stressing out, and about to have a panic attack all because I didn't do what I was supposed to do when I had to. Now something really important isn't being completely focused on because I have a hundred little "simple" things waiting to be done! AGGGGGHHHHH! I'm getting frustrated just thinking about it! By the way... that is just talking about the little things that I have to do for myself. Now lets talk about procrastinating when it comes to someone else.

Is there a phone call that you've been meaning to make for the past 2 weeks, nothing too crazy... maybe just to catch up with a friend or a family member? Have you ever gone shopping for a loved one last minute and end up getting a gift certificate for a random place and just hope that the other person finds it interesting? Have you ever put off doing chores at home? Come on, you must be able to relate... if not with these specific scenarios... something similar. Anyways... we've all procrastinated in some way, shape, or form. If you get to the root of it... 9 times out of 10 its because we were being selfish. There. I said it.

Don't brag about tomorrow, since you don't know what the day will bring.
Proverbs 27:1 NLV

People, nobody can guarantee us that we will get to see another day. By procrastinating, we are feeding our selfish desires and not being productive. We put things on the back burner with a feeling of confidence that we will get to it when we get to it. What if that day doesn't come? Will you be okay with that? I'm sure that if its something like washing the dishes, shopping for a gift, or anything work related... your answer will be yes... but what if it was calling a family member to let them know that you love them? Meeting your parents for lunch? Taking your younger siblings our to hang out? Would you be okay with THAT?

I'd love to get some feedback from you... please don't hesitate if you have any questions, comments, or concerns! Got a prayer request? Hit me up :D
